Haiku to Bring Me Home

I wrote 22 haiku today, on my 16 hour trip from Middletown Connecticut through Manhattan back to Pittsburgh. Below is a brief diary of my journey:

Cold wind bustles through
cab window rolled down a crack.
Connecticut cold.

Clasping and huddled
the @GreyhoundBus ‘s broken
heater keeps us close.

Canada geese lay
in the freeway’s arms, watching
our morning traffic.

Banner of steam hangs
shading its home factory
capitalism.

Former toy dog slinks
to electricity pole;
urinates; struts off.

Freeway snapshot: birch
faints into the waiting arms
of still standing friends.

The corners of the
Mac truck are rusted and dinged,
how long until home?

An American
flag stands dwarfed by bush pines and
a rust-red farm house.

Sitting Indian
style on a soft carpet with
friends eating rice. Home.

PS: I know it’s been a long absence. I made the typical writers’ mistake, and let a vicious critic into my head. But I’m back!

Inspirational Quote:

“Education is the silver bullet. Education is everything. We don’t need little changes. We need gigantic revolutionary changes. Competition for the best teachers should be fierce. They should be getting six-figure salaries. Schools should be incredibly expensive for government and absolutely free of charge for its citizens, just like national defense.”

  1. Lovely poems! “Never let the outside world tell you how good you are.” (Dr. Manuela Veloso’s quote from Nobel Prize Winner Herb Simon)
