This past month, I feel like I got so caught up in studying that I forgot the “abroad” part. In some ways, this is exactly what I came for: to live, not visit, another country, and learn to be comfortable here. By just living here, I can see what real life is like, not the performed life most tourists are treated to. But before I leave, I’d like to step back into my tourist shoes, and fill out my vision of Doha. To make sure I leave no regrets here in Doha, here are the top 7 things I want to do before I fly back to my home in California.
- Spend a night in the desert (either at the inland sea or Jebel Jassassiyeh)
- Fly to Oman for the weekend
- See traditional weavers in Oman
- See Cairo with my family
- See the pyramids in Egypt
- Visit Souq Waqif again
- See the Gold, Falcon and Second-Hand Souqs in Doha
I know for sure I will be singing with a wildly diverse (and representative of Doha) cast in Oliver!, writing a research paper on the United Nations’ Arms Trade Treaty and a research paper on the historical role of European women in the Gulf, and studying like mad for my 3 finals.
And I’ll post about it all here!
