National Mall

DC is so much fun. Subsidized subway, free museums with so much to see it is impossible to get a view of everything–and sunny weather (at least this weekend). I saw the Washington Monument which is really, really, really big. Really. I think it’s a guy thing.

The Natural History Museum has a wonderful exhibit of Natural Photography from a contest the 2006 Nature’s Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International Awards and the National Wildlife Photography Awards competitions. Personal favorites: a 5 ft by 4 ft picture of a chimpanzee’s hands folded on each other. They reminded me of a business man’s hands during an important discussion. The photographer got them just right so the first thing I thought when I looked at the picture was, old hands, and the second thing I thought was, monkey hands. Then of course there are the penguins. And who doesn’t love penguins? One heartbreaking photo was of a polar bear lying on a ten foot piece of floating ice, miles and miles away from the next sizable piece. In the description plaque the photographer said the polar bear just laid the entire time it took her cruise ship to pass him–he barely moved at all.

Anyhoo, now for club stuff!
