Hopper 2011–Where I’ll Be

I have the honor of moderating a panel on twenty-first century movement building:

I’ve been researching how to moderate a good panel:

I am thrilled and intimidated by my incredible panel. In case you’re in Portland in the first week of November, come check it out:

Abstract: We can make women’s lives safer, smarter, and brighter in any country and in our time. Our panelists use social media and mobile technology to help women protect themselves from gender-based harassment and violence on the streets and online. Learn to lead a movement against marital rape and combat public sexual harassment with a cellphone. Join HollaBack and Take Back The Tech! to discuss movement building in the 21st century.

PS: I’ll also be presenting a poster. Here’s it’s description:

Summary: If only 2% of the 20,000 ads posted in Craigslist’s Adult Services section a day in summer 2010 were for sex with minors, Craigslist profits from slavery topped a million dollars a year.  Any minor in commercial sex is a sex trafficking victim; there are between 100,000 and 300,000 children sold for sex a year in the U.S.  Working with Polaris Project, a DC organization combating trafficking, we designed a tool to count Adult Services posts in every city in America.  In fall 2010, the anti-trafficking movement (supported by our statistics) contributed to Craigslist shutting down their Adult Services section.

Have I designed the poster yet? Not so much. But I will before school starts. I hope…
