My Morning Journey to Escorting, and 2 Smiling Protesters

Here is where I take my bus:

And where I walk downtown:

As I tweeted, nearly none of the protesters who were muttering at and shadowing women outside my Planned Parenthood clinic consented to being photographed. I absolutely did not have to ask for permission, they were standing on and blocking the public walk-way, but chose to to honor the spirit in each of them and treat them each with a dignity they refused me or any of our clients.

While these protesters are mostly smiling, remember that they used their bodies and voices to intimidate women seeking medical care early on a Saturday morning in downtown Pittsburgh.

It is a complex position, seeking to honor the dignity of those who dehumanize me and those whose rights and selves I seek to protect.
