Remember my Tweet-A-Thon? Well, excitingly enough, is competing for the Stay Classy award in Most Innovative Use of Social Media.

It is currently in 3d place, 1st is $10,000, competing with some great other organizations–voting ends tomorrow! I know it’s cliche, but it’s actually an honor to be nominated. Here’s the write-up for the event:

Polaris Project’s vision is for a world without slavery. When you open your bedroom door, you don’t expect to find the first of 20 men sent by your pimp. Girls starting as young as 13 do in the U.S.-this is modern-day slavery. In July 2010, Polaris touched more than 100,000 individuals on Twitter with 500+ tweets in three days, raising awareness about modern-day slavery.

This Tweet-A-Thon provided links to educational resources and ideas for how to fight sex trafficking locally, nationally, and internationally. The tweets came from 18 summer fellows, volunteering for a summer of anti-trafficking leadership training and speaking 11 languages, each with personal #tags. By pushing the tweets through Polaris’s account, Polaris’s 2000 followers were able to multiply their impact more than 50 times.

Inspirational Quote:

“Awards are wonderful. I’ve been nominated many times and I’ve won many awards. But my journey is not towards that. If it happens it will be a blast. If it doesn’t, it’s still been a blast.”–Tom Cruise
