My mom and my step-dad both SCUBA dive, and I am into old-tech (swords, looms, sail-boats), so when I saw a man teaching a crowd of students at CMU-Qatar about pearl-diving in Qatar, I had to watch. Before the discovery of natural gas, where Qatar was know, it was known for pearls. Below is a brief primer on the tech of pearling:
